This is a new mesh, and means that it's a brand new self contained object that usually does not require a specific Expansion pack (although this is possible depending on the type). It may have Recolours hosted on MTS - check below the description for more information.
This is a featured upload! It showcases the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
No more jay-walking! No more running stop signs!

We all know how badly Sims drive..they speed, they ignore give-way (yield) and stop signs. Well..now they can ignore this too.

What is it? It's Traffic lights with walk/don't walk signs. They work in sequence, too. By the nature of things Sim, it had to be a four-way sequence rather than a three way, but some countries use a four way anyway. This means it goes GREEN, GREEN/AMBER, RED, RED/AMBER. The Walk sign is lit on green in one direction and the Don't Walk is lit the other direction. Both sides light up Don't Walk on red or red and green with an amber. Each light holds for approx. 15 seconds. It won't operate in Buy or Build mode, you must be in game play.

Lovingly carved from a Birch tree, it also borrowed from a street light. The mesh is DT-trafficlight.OBJ

***Feb 27*** Thank you to zedrik for advising the way to make this appear in the right place in the Buy Catalogue for Community/DT lots - Outdoors >> Lights. The package has been change to reflect this.

If you have the package already and SimPE you can change it yourself or redownload. This update does not affect the object at all so existing owners do not need to update unless they want to change catalogue location

No fiddling. No pay sites. Use it, give it away, change the color if you like, as long as you link back to here please.

Thank you and enjoy watching the lights change

Open for business: As those who have it may have already discovered, Maxis has disabled 'moveobjects' for object placement outside a lot build boundary. For me and many others who have made 'street decoration' this ruins our concept of what a street should look like. My advice? Complain loud and long to Maxis and EA. It was a pointless and stupid change on their part.

Is this supposed to go in requests because I dont really understand the whole part.
Where I live they dont have the lights hanging over the side of the road it's more of the lights on the stick sort of thing because we have double decker buses.
Oh and is Move_objects really Disabled for OFB? because in that case I cant download this

The moveobjects on cheat has been fixed with open for business with a maxis patch.

My question is.. how do you get this to appear in residential lots?

Cool.. Better than I could have done... *starts mumbling and getting very jealous of such good talent* So when the traffic light is red, pedestrian light is green? COOOL

I just wanna know if this download is BV compatible.

But great job with this, great work. It deserves to be featured.

i think that it is BV compatible (beacause it doesen't seem to hack anything in the game. it is just an object that changes its "color")#

I am hoping someone finds a fix soon, as a lot of my own stuff and many other people's fine street decorations require to be placed at the edge of the road.

Huh? as you can see in my pics i can place things on the street! maybe maxis rechanged this in another expansion pack (i've got every EP & 2 SPs ("Teen Style A." and "Glamour A.")

to my mind there are some things missing:
  • a pedestrain traffic light (#2 in pics)
  • a recolor of the phases, because it isn't really good when you build a crossing and every light is pointing green to the same time (#3 in pics)
  • a recolor of the pedestrain traffic light (reason see above!)
this is why i created those three objects attached to the post. i think it would be the best, if you (darylmarkloc) add a notice into the file-description that i attached those files. most people (including me) dont look through the hole list of comments.

P.S.: Sorry for my bad Englisch!!! #1 in the pics= original traffic light/color

-Whines- I don't have university, but I do have nightlife. So if I download it, will some of the stuff show up? (._.) Well, I'll give feedback on what happens.

The walk/don't walk part is a bit big (off-scale). Instead of 15-second intervals, how about randomized times (configurable in-game, preferably) and/or responsive to vehicles (so, green when a vehicle drives through, red when vehicle is stopped)?

But, regardless, different parts of the world use different patterns. Consider it generic..I had to decide on some 4 light sequence, that is just the one I chose..

darylmarkloc, what do you mean by this?

I would say very few countries DON'T have amber on its own in their sequence. I thought it was only a few Eastern european countries which use this. I guess i was wrong...

And btw Most countries go straight from Red to green or red to red and amber, so thats how people know the difference

EA included a traffic light similar to this in Sims 3. (probably in Nightlife, I did not notice when it appeared) It seems to do the same sort of thing, although I think on first glance, it is only available to use in Edit World or CAW, and not on Lots. The real difference is theirs is contemporary American and mine was sort of 90's Australian-ish. Anyway, point is, since there is one in Sims 3, I probably won't worry about recreating this one, unless I wanted a change in style to corner post type. When editing a lot in Sims 3, "moveobjects" does not allow placing an object outside the lot, so creating one for a lot might be pointless. I could be wrong, I am still exploring.
